TV and Movie Vehicles

carsI was pretty excited to get this special order via Etsy, and I found it difficult to put it into the mail today. Although, that is somewhat typical of me. I don’t want to keep what I make, but it is still hard to let it go.

When this first came in, it was a request for: “The A Team” van, the “Smokey and the Bandit” Trans Am, KITT from “Knight Rider”, and James Bond’s Aston Martin. The Bond car was then switched out for the DeLorean from “Back to the Future”, which was absolutely the right thing to do. Even though we are mixing television and film, and “Smokey and the Bandit” came out in the 70s rather than the 80s, James Bond just doesn’t fit with this series. When I polled my Facebook fans, they suggested adding the Batmobile, Magnum P.I.’s Ferrari, the cycles from CHiPs, and Starsky and Hutch’s Gran Torino, just to name a few. All of these are top notch ideas, which leaves me with much to consider for the second edition.

You may notice I used color, which I almost always philosophically oppose. But it works here, especially the metallic gold on Smokey and the Bandit. I think this set will make for some great conversations over a six pack, while keeping the bar clear of unsightly water rings. My work here is done!

Sidenote: When doing research for this project, I came across this article. (I use the word “article” loosely here – sorry, Buzzfeed!) Can you imagine? Do Molly’s friends really know “Back to the Future”? Do they really think she’s cool? Or is her dad just a nerd Gen Xer making his own dream come true? This article should be entitled “Selfish Parenting: How to convince your child that your self indulgent behavior is in her best interest”. With that said, if Steve wants to give me a ride to work, I’ll take it.
